Culture Shock was founded on a simple but powerful idea: dance can be a force for positive change.
What began as a single organization dedicated to artistic excellence and community engagement grew into a movement that inspired new locations, new generations of dancers, and new opportunities to connect through culture and creativity.
The Beginning
Culture Shock was created in the 1990s with a vision of using Hip-Hop culture and dance to bring people together, create opportunity, and inspire positive change.

New locations emerged, bringing the mission to dancers, families, and communities while remaining connected through shared values. This period helped inspire the Culture Shock Napkin and its visual story of connection.

Historic Artifact
The Culture Shock Napkin.
Created in the early 2000s, the Culture Shock Napkin became a visual reminder of something that was already happening across the dance community: the movement was growing roots, branches, and new connections far beyond a single troupe.
What began as a hand-drawn family tree of dance troupes became something much larger — a snapshot of influence, inspiration, and the many dance families that sprouted from the Culture Shock movement.
It represents more than names on a page. It represents dancers who became leaders, communities that became connected, and a legacy that continued to grow through Hip-Hop culture, mentorship, creativity, and shared purpose.

Culture Shock was founded by Angie Bunch, whose vision extended far beyond dance performance.
She believed that dance could inspire confidence, develop leadership, create opportunity, and bring people together across communities and cultures.
Her commitment to artistic excellence, mentorship, and positive social impact established the foundation upon which Culture Shock continues to grow today.

Founder & Board Member
Angie Bunch
Angie Bunch, founder of Culture Shock Dance Troupes, Inc., executive director of Culture Shock San Diego, lives in San Diego, California and is founder and co-owner of the Culture Shock Dance Center there.
Once a member of the elite Nike Network of sponsored dance and fitness athletes, Angie traveled the globe sharing her passion and unique non-verbal teaching style, developing the Cardio Hip-Hop class enjoyed worldwide today.
Angie is a teacher, director, and leader who champions dancers and artists alike. She continues to inspire through instructor training workshops and her ongoing vision for Culture Shock.

Kevin Maddox
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Kevin brings a vibrant fusion of over 35 years of corporate leadership and entertainment expertise. From modeling to DJing, choreographing, and leading fitness revolutions, Kevin’s career is a testament to global impact and passion.
A veteran of multiple Fortune 500 companies and a current leader within a Fortune 100 firm, Kevin merges quality-driven corporate insight with an infectious enthusiasm for fitness and movement. He has pioneered his own high-intensity dance fitness philosophy, believing that fun and fitness can go hand-in-hand.
Originally the founder and former Executive Director of Culture Shock Atlanta, Kevin has since extended his reach to inspire dancers and fitness enthusiasts worldwide. His role on the Culture Shock International Board reflects his commitment to nurturing leadership and community stewardship among the next generation of performers.
Whether he is energizing a corporate event or uplifting a bar/bat mitzvah crowd, Kevin’s philosophy is simple: lead with passion, create joy, and always keep the music playing.

Eilleen Mallary
Eilleen Mallary is the Executive Director of Culture Shock Chicago, as well as a company dancer and teaching artist.
Her work centers on Hip-Hop culture, education, representation, outreach, and community empowerment. She has performed extensively throughout Chicago and toured across the United States and Canada.
Eilleen is a passionate educator and community leader who strives to inspire positive change through dance.

Marc-André Clément
Marc-André Clément is a seasoned entrepreneur, educator, consultant, and executive leader with more than 35 years of experience in fitness, wellness, entertainment, leadership development, and entrepreneurship.
He has served as a professor at Collège La Cité for more than 10 years, specializing in health, fitness, and nutrition within public safety programs.
Marc-André served as National Executive Director of Culture Shock Canada for over two decades and now continues his work as a board member of the Culture Shock International Foundation.

Albert Harnois
Albert Harnois is a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel with experience in intellectual property, transactions, corporate strategy, and general counsel matters.
He has managed substantial patent portfolios across telecommunications, electronics, software, search engines, cryptography, and LEDs, while also supporting investor fundraising and major litigation.
Albert also brings a personal passion for dance, having competed successfully in salsa at national and international levels.

Del Mak
Del Mak is an international creative director, judge, award-winning choreographer, and educator from London, UK.
His career spans music, fashion, theatre, television, film, live events, and global dance education. He has worked with major artists, brands, award shows, and international dance platforms.
Del joined Culture Shock UK in 2003 and has continued to mentor and develop dancers around the world through teaching, choreography, judging, and creative leadership.

Lenon Peachlum
Lenon Peachlum is a respected choreographer, instructor, and mentor whose work has reached dancers across more than 23 countries.
His history with Culture Shock is extensive, including helping create the troupe name, serving as a founding member of Culture Shock San Diego, and contributing to the foundational work of international troupes.
Lenon brings deep experience in choreography, education, performance, mentorship, and creative development.
